Alstom Pension Scheme - Deferred

If you joined the Alstom Pension Scheme on or before 30 September 2002.
This page explains your deferred benefits accrued up to 5 April 2006, or your date of leaving if earlier. You will have been in one of the following sections:

  • Main (ex-GEC Plan) section
  • ex-ABB section
  • ex-Cegelec section
  • ex-Babcock section
  • Electricity section (Manweb, Norweb, Scottish Power or United Utilities)

Members who were employed by Alstom as at 6 April 2006 may have joined the 2006 Defined Benefit (DB) section from that date. The infomation below relates to your deferred benefits in the above pre-2006 benefit sections. This section will not apply to any members who opted to take a service credit from their pre-2006 benefit section to the 2006 DB Section (this service credit option was completed in February 2007).

Please note the bridging pension is a discretionary benefit that is no longer offered by the Trustee due to the underfunding of the scheme. Please refer to the news section to find details of the latest early retirement factors.

    Information on Additional Voluntary Contributions

If you joined the Friends Life (formerly Friends Provident) AVC arrangement then please see the
AVC Investment Guide. You can choose from a range of investment options. You can change the way you invest your AVCs as often as you like.

Over time, the aim is that you build up the amount of money in your AVC account. This is different to building up money in a normal current or savings account, because you can only use the money in your AVC account to buy extra benefits for you or your dependants when you retire. You cannot use your AVC account to buy extra benefits before you start to receive your Alstom pension.

When you retire, you can use the money that has built up in your AVC account to buy extra benefits. If you want to know more about the AVC scheme then please see the AVC Booklet
